Important !!
Before you start a game of
Speed Strike II, we highly recommend that you read this
document. Everything, concerning Speed Strike, is explained.
This complete pack includes:
-
Teamwork maps:
maps in 2v2 or 3v3 played
in Defuse, Hostage Rescue or Assassination modes,
-
Duels maps: find
all orignal Speed Strike maps along with new ones for
1v1 or 2v2 games,
-
Funs maps: a selection
of fun maps from around the net,
-
The Server pack : an AMX plugin
to deal with your servers and limit grenade purchase,
along with Metamod 1.17 and AMX 0.9.8 automatically installed
if you wish so.
SPEED STRIKE II OVERVIEW
The Speed Strike project, which development had been stopped,
has been restarted by St James ( www.stjames-maps.net,
FR only website at this date, sorry).
Speed Strike II IS Counter-Strike only
played on different maps. These maps are smaller
than the ones you are familiar with and specifically targeted
for 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 games.
Speed Strike II can be played in THREE
ways:
- Teamwork (2v2 / 3v3)
- Duels (1v1 / 2v2)
- Fun
1. TEAMWORK
Speed Strike II is different from the original idea since
I decided to include the tactical elements so essential to
Counter-Strike: the mission objectives (bomb, hostages,
vip).
These themes make what Counter-Strike is. Keeping them
alive in a Speed version geared towards 2v2 or 3v3 games
makes the mod much more interesting : fast and bloody yet
tactical.
The proposed maps are therefore tactical, fast and, essentially,
fun. They are played in 2v2 and/or 3v3 in Defuse, Hostage
Rescue or Assassination modes.
This concept was possible thanks to the original Speed
Strike concept (www.speedstrike.net, site down) and is complementary
to the Speed Rescue concept, proposed by the Mapping Alliance
Project (www.mapqc.cjb.net).
Rules:

smoke grenades are FORBIDDEN except on
sa_ maps for CTs
(1) CO rules, Charges Only: the attacking
team is Terroristes on sd_ maps, and Counter-Terrorists
on sr_ and sa_ maps.
(2) Warning, bug: i am unable, at present,
to determine the number of Flash grenades a player is
holding at the beginning of a round; therefore, a player
who bought a Flash grenade and didn't use it nor didn't
die, may buy another one the following round. It
is of course still forbidden to throw more than one flash
grenade per round per player.
Teamwork
maps:
There are three map types for Teamwork games:
-
sd_, Speed Defuse:
Terrorists must plant a bomb, Counter-Terrorists must
stop them from doing so or defuse the planted bomb.
Speed Strike maps usually have only one bombe
site, sometimes two (sd_terminal22, sd_alaves,
sd_urbanwar);
-
sr_, Speed Rescue:
Counter-Terrorists must free a maximum of
two hostages from the hands of the Terrorists;
-
sa_, Speed Assassination:
Terrorists must assassinate a VIP, Counter-Terrorists
must protect him, at the cost of their lifes if necessary.
Warning: when a CT player becomes VIP, he
looses all weapons (this function is natively
coded within CS). Fortunately, by being VIP he then
earns lots of money which allows him to buy his equipment
back when becoming simple CT.
We have included 16 maps for this release:

sd_terminal22 is
placed in a wagon depot, with 2 bomb sites,
-
sr_paranoia asks from
the CTs to rescue two poor souls from the wrench of
psychopaths,
-
sa_toreroloco, where
a mad toreador must run away from angry spanish farmers,
-
sd_alaves plays during
a dryness in the south of Spain, save the villagers
water !
-
sd_richnfamous is
based on the chateau theme: extremely tactical,
it is played in silenced footspteps and promisses
continuous suprises,
-
sr_polar_militia
is based on the cs_militia theme, in a polar version,
-
sd_thirst takes the
dust theme : fast rush, ferocious battles,
-
sd_urbanwar takes
you in the heart of urban warfare,
-
sd_thundaaa, Terrorists
attack to blow a dam (cs_thunder redone :),
-
sd_distillery takes
place in a scottish distillery and is played in endless
corridors around a much vulnerable control room,
-
sr_greenhouse where
terrorists held two beautiful hostage-esses,
-
sr_rats_attic, rats
concept applied to Speed Strike !!,

sr_arab is played in
an algerian environment, bad guys are holding two
hostages that need rescue,
-
sr_ruins is an original
theme as CTs must rescue two archeologists,
-
sd_747 where
bad terrorists want to destroy the plane in
which they are boarded... (mad innit?!),
-
and sd_subway_v2,
in a working metro, don't fall from it, you could
"hurt" yourself...
2. DUELS
The duel mode plays like the original idea of Speed Strike
and honors it by adding a few really good maps.
Games on these maps play in 1v1 or 2v2
maximum, without flashes nor smoke. Players
challenge each other based on their skill.

Duel maps are very small and very fast and contact is made
almost immediately. You wil not find any purpose here, no
mission, only ennemy frags. Remember, all points count as
CT AND as Terrorists.

3. FUN
The fun mode presents itself as a zipped package
not yet available.
The Fun mode is being playe at as many as you want, with the
rules that you want (except for no flashes nor smoke), as
long as you want!...
There is about forty maps, found here and there on the net,
some you perhaps already know, some that will make you laugh
(and some that will really annoy you :)

CREATE A SPEED
STRIKE SERVER
I will limit myself to explaining how to create a local
server on which you can invite your friends for a game
or better, play an opposing team.
As for dedicated server, after having installed the
maps and the plugin, the procedure is the same as for
lauching a standard Counter-Strike server. You will
then use the plugin's commands to specify the desired
macycle (see Speed Strike plugin).
1. Install Speed Strike II
To create a "local" server, you need to install
Speed Strike but also Metamod 1.17 and AMX 0.9.8, both
of which are included in the install program: select
Complete Install.
If you already have installed Metamod and AMX with specific
plugins, be sure to install only the minimum necessary
to run a Speed Strike server: select Minimal
Install.
2. Create a server
Once this is done, start Counter-Strike 1.6 and choose
"New Game...". In the "Server"
tab, choose the map you wish to play on.
In the "Game" tab, enter
the game parameters, essentially the maximum number
of players and a password to make sure not to be bothered
during an online game.
Other parameters such as map rotation time or round
time do not need be changed as the plugin will automatically
take care of them.

To allow for a listen server which is accessible from
the internet, a file called listenserver.cfg has been
copied into the /cstrike directory. This file changes
the cvar sv_lan to "0" instead of "1"
which is the default. It also calls a file named speedstrike.cfg
which sets the proper Speed Strike values and calls
the server Speed Strike II. If you wish to change the
server name then change it in this file.
3. Using the plugin
To make sure you will play in the best conditions, the
plugin will automatically detect you are playing on
a Speed Strike map and load the corresponding parameters.
Therefore you have nothing to do unless, if you wish
so, to specify the mapcycle: type « speed »
in the console to know which mapcycle is loaded. Type
« speed 0|1|2|3 »
depending on the mapcycle you want to load.
4. How to play a game
To ensure both teams play in the same conditions, I
recommend that a first map be played on one team's player
machine and the second map on one of the other team's
player machine.
6 players connecting to a DSL 512K equivalent connection
or more will play comfortably. Do not forget to take
screenshots to ensure legitimity of results or better
yet, have one player use HLTV to record the game (OS
resources barely used as well as bandwidth, unless 128
players connect to watch the game, of course ^^).
SPEED STRIKE PLUGIN FOR AMX
Warning: this plugin may cause conflicts
with other purchase control plugins. Be sure to disactivate
those if you use the Speed Strike plugin.
This plugin controls purchase of Flash and Smoke:
-
One unique Flash per round and per player(1)
-
Blocks Flashes on duels maps (sp_) and fun
maps (st_, aim_, aaa_, ...)
-
Forbids Smokes for all except for CTs on
sa_ maps (to balance for the absence of Artic Warfare Magnum
not available for them)
(1) Warning, bug: i am unable, at present,
to determine the number of Flash grenades a player is holding
at the beginning of a round; therefore, a player who bought
a Flash grenade and didn't use it nor didn't die, may buy
another one the following round. It is of course still
forbidden to throw more than one flash grenade per round per
player.
To use this plugin, you must have Metamod and AMX installed
on your PC/server, both of which are included in the installation
program.
Use the following console commands:
"speed" to display plugin status
"speed 0" "speed off", to stop all Speed
Strike configuration
"speed 1" "speed tw" "speed teamwork",
to load Teamwork mapcycle (sd_, sr_, sa_ maps)
"speed 2" "speed duels", to load Duels
mapcycle (sp_ maps)
"speed 3" "speed fun", to load Fun mapcycle
(st_, aaa_, aim_, etc.)
